Oir na Mara is an attractive traditionally built crofter's style self catering
detached holiday house situated near the main harbour on Berneray.

It has a beautiful out look across Bays Loch to the Harris hills and the
Minch with the Isle of Skye hills in the distance.The house is on the
water front with the sea visible from almost every window. Various
seabirds and seals can be seen in Bays Loch with also the possibility
of otters appearing  in front of the house which is a mere 15 feet from
the sea on the old pier.

A short stroll from Oir na Mara will take you to impressive beaches at
the eastern and southern ends of the island. Here the sand is
beautifully clean and the water is crystal clear.

The location of the house is central to the local shop / cafe, post office
and visitor centre There is also easy access to North Uist, Benbecula
and South Uist.
Walking is recommended during your holiday as it is possible to walk around all of the Berneray coast. The  machair,
which runs virtually the length of the west side of the island you can see orchids, flora and fauna of Berneray's costal
machair. Or just to enjoy the many miles of white shell sand beaches that are inspiring and invigorating.

Berneray is home to snipes, corncrakes, mute swans, greylag geese, brent geese, ravens, buzzards, golden eagles,
hen harriers, herons, ringed plovers, whimbrels, curlews, oyster catchers, sanderlings, redshanks, turnstones, dunlin,
cormorants, shags, common seals, grey seals, eiders, red-breasted mergansers, mallards, otters; and if that is not
enough, Berneray is also home to the rare black-throated divers and great northern divers.

Also try a spot of fishing at loch Bhrusda where you can catch brown trout some of them being whoppers of almost 7
lb or a short 15 foot stroll to the old pier for sea fishing. You could go to the main harbour and buy freshly caught
lobster, prawns and crab when you see the boats returning from fishing in the early evening.

The house has broadband and also a laptop for you to keep in touch with the outside world.
